Here's what's new... Monday, May 13th, 2013

For the last few years I've been working on some different cross breeds. They just now have their second year plumage and this week we harvested a few. The most interesting was the Lady Amherst / Reeves cross. The feathers are beautiful and you can see them on my new page; Lady Amherst / Reeves cross.

We also pulled this years crop of AmGold tails. I'll be working on listing them and finishing up that page; Amgolds. A few were especially perfect so I'll be busy skining this week.

I also received this years crop of Rhode Island Red from Whiting Farms. Both roosters and hens. They are some of the largest capes and the colors are beautiful. Nothing has a better quill for tying quill bodies. You can see these on my page; Rhode Island Red.

Grizzly dyed Copper Olive There are so many beautiful and effective soft hackle patterns you can tie. The problem is that many of the feathers called for in some of these patterns are no longer available because the birds are protected. One is the Golden Plover. Metz Dry Fly Capes	$75.00
Grizzly And Metz is back! The hackle that set the standard back in the 70's and 80's is now making a phenomenal comeback. Rick Dailey, the steward of the Metz genetic flock, has been working on two seperate lines. A Dry Fly line, which is pictured here, and a Magnum line which is selected for streamer qualities. His hard work on the Dry Fly line is paying off. He has reversed many of the problems of the 90's. The stems are flexable, the barbs are stiff and the count is high. All deserving of a second look. These speckled hen backs will give your fly a buggy look. They range in color from dark to light. The feathers are soft and webby.

Quill Body Cape The Gordon Dry Fly is a true classic. It has not changes since Theodore Gordon designed it to fish in the Catskills back at end of the 19th century. No other material better immitates the segmented thorax than the tappered quill of a feather from a Rhode Island Red Cape. The color is perfect and the taper is just right. Brassy Dun At the shows, this is one of my best sellers. As you can see from the picture, it is a spot on match for the wings on a mayfly, I did my best to get the color correct in this picture. Saltwater Hen Cape	$22.50
Black Laced Brown The natural golden brown, laced with black makes this a very unique and beautiful feather. These feathers are wide, webby, and as you can see in the picture, have nice round tips. The webbing is solid right up to the feathers edge. Interestingly, the small feathers on the top of these capes transition to a black center with a golden brown edge. Perfect for small streamers or crayfish patterns.

Red Pheonix Heritage turkeys have some of the most unexpected patterning in their tail feathers. This is a perfectly matched set of tail quills harvested from a Pencilled Palm Tom as soon as they were prime. The pencilling is perfect, and other than some slight freying on the tips, both are in perfect condition.

Red Crested Turaco	$12.50
Primary Wing Quills These feathers are a beautiful deep red. They measure 11 inches in length. Native to Africa, the red pigment from these feathers were used as a dye. The bird itself is different shades of green. Only when it flys do they reveal these stricking red feathers.

Tying leech flies and having a hard time finding wide webby long feathers? Well the feathers on these saddles are perfect!
