Grey Peacock Pheasant
Males are perfect gentleman, when they find something good to eat, they pick it up, only to drop it - again and again, all the while making a "feeding clucking" call. This "tid-bitting" immediatly gets the hens attention and as she approaches he goes into full display. He's certainly no dumby!

Tying with Grey Peacock Pheasant Feathers
This is a very popular bird with artistic salmon tiers. The size variety offers many uses such as tail veilings, sides, cheeks and whole feather wings.
Feathers from this bird were used to tie Five Easy Pieces by Paul Schmookler in rare and Unusual Vol.1.
Body feathers make great throats on salmon and steelhead fishing flies. I didn't list any here yet, but if you're interested, please contact me.

This bird was in full feather, no pin feathers, chipping or damage. Had the head not been damaged it would have made a nice mount.
$375 |

This is probably the largest Grey I've ever come across. It is an older breeder and the feathers are in perfect shape. Truley a specimen more in line for a collector rather than be used for tying.

Pheasants
All pheasants are native to Asia. There are 52 different breeds of these beautiful birds, 17 of which are listed as endangered.
Habitat destruction and hunting has reduced the number of these birds in the wild. The Hainan Peacock Pheasant, thought to be a subspecies of the grey, is one of these and is one of the most endangered birds in all of China. Today it is at greater risk of extinction than even the Giant Panda.
None listed here are in such danger - but with habitat destruction and population growth, it's just a matter of time.
